Maurizio Barbacini is one of today’s most sought-after opera conductors. In a distinguished career, he has appeared with many of the world’s great opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera New York, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin.  In addition, he has held positions as Principal Conductor of the Finnish National Opera, Principal Guest Conductor of the Stockholm Opera and Principal Conductor of the Opera Company of Philadelphia. This seasons will see his debut at Opera Australia with Il barbiere di Siviglia and he will return to Komische Oper Berlin to conduct Le cheval de bronze. In Italy he will lead a production of Ernani in Sassari. Maurizio Barbacini has made a number of recordings, including a disc of opera arias with Denyce Graves and the Munich Radio Orchestra which is available on the RCA Red Seal label.  Before becoming a conductor he enjoyed a successful career as a singer, and appeared as Gaston in Franco Zeffirelli’s film of La traviata.
