Under the collaborative direction of Kevin Finnan and Louise Richards since 1988, Motionhouse creates and delivers an extraordinary range of dance performances, acclaimed for striking use of imagery, theatricality and immediate impact.

Since the company's launch, it has toured eighteen full-length productions to middle-scale theatres, built up a formidable educational programme for schools and colleges, trained dozens of dancers, pushed contemporary dance into the aerial arena by combining choreography with sling and bungee skills, and developed large-scale site-specific dance spectacles with increasing ambition.

Motionhouse has also witnessed great success for its shorter festival pieces, which tour extensively throughout the UK and Europe. Motionhouse won the Audience Prize at the MiramirO Festival in Ghent in 2009 for Underground, which remains in its repertoire and is performed alongside Chaser and its new outdoor show for 2010, Cascade, which is already proving popular on the circuit with promoters and audience members alike.

Motionhouse's latest critically acclaimed theatre production Scattered, which premiered at Warwick Arts Centre in 2009, went international in May 2010 opening the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Romania. Scattered performed to a wonderful reception in Macau in May and returned to Romania before touring in the UK in autumn 2011. Scattered is directed by Kevin Finnan and performed on and within an extraordinary set designed by Simon Dormon, with an original music score by Sophy Smith and lighting design by Natasha Chivers.

Scattered combines Motionhouse's trademark highly physical dance theatre and mesmerizing aerial imagery with film and graphics, to create a unique visual performance event. Performed on a huge curved floor (think of a half pipe), which disappears skywards upstage, Scattered uses projection technology to create a world in which the dancers move in, on and through the image. Scattered delves into the majesty and savagery of water, a fundamental force in our lives as seven dancers plunge into an ocean, tumble down a waterfall, gasp with thirst under a scorching sun and slide on an avalanche to a frozen landscape of arctic beauty. In Scattered Motionhouse is creating a startling interaction between film and live performance, where dancers glide in the air or rapidly move around the space using aerial silks and harnesses.

In addition to Motionhouse's extensive touring, it is constantly experimenting with the performance environment and creating dance in unusual contexts - for parks, beaches, shopping centres and stately homes alongside more traditional venues. From full length touring works to shorter festival performances, to large scale dance spectacles, Motionhouse dancers perform alongside aerialists, cranes, JCB diggers and singers, on stunning sets, in breathtaking places and in the public eye. A wide ranging education and participatory programme complements and enhances the performance work.
