A true spinto tenor, Neal’s characterful voice and powerful presence, both vocally and dramatically, are naturally suited to verismo roles, as well as the more dramatic, Heldentenor repertoire.
Neal grew up in South East London and read Modern Languages at Durham University before moving to Paris to study voice and drama at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. He joined the National Opera Studio, London in the 2009 – 2010 season.
Most recently, Neal covered the role of Luigi in Puccini’s Il Tabarro in the acclaimed production of Il trittico at the Royal Opera House and sang Gabriele Adorno in ENO’s Simon Boccanegra, which was met with great success.
Other recent operatic engagements include: Borsa Rigoletto (Opera Holland Park), Radames Aida (Riverside Opera ), Cavaradossi (cover) Tosca (English National Opera), Calaf (cover) Turandot (English National Opera) and Un Seigneur La Jolie Fille de Perth (Chelsea Opera Group). Neal sang Calaf for ENO Baylis Know the Show.
On the concert platform, he has performed Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. He will return to ENO this season to cover Cavaradossi and to Opera Holland Park for Gherardo in Gianni
