Riccardo Frizza studied at Conservatory of Music in Milan and at Chigiana Academy in Siena. In 1998 he won  International Competition of South Bohemia State-Philharmonic Conductors (Czech Republic). From 1994 to 2000, he was a conductor in residence for Symphonic Orchestra of Brescia, performing Beethoven Symphonies and other symphonic repertory.

Regularly conducting during Italian opera festivals, he has appeared at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, at Due Mondi Festival in Spoleto, at Festival of Martina Franca, at Festival Verdi in Parma, Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Regio  in Turin, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and Teatro del maggio musicale Fiorentino. Abroad he has led some of the world’s most important orchestras at the most important festivals as Festival de Radio France and Montpellier, at Wexford Festival, at Festival of Aix-en-Provence, Saint-Denis Festival, at Palacio de la Opera in La Coruna, Philharmonic of St. Petersburg, at Royal Festival Hall of London, at  Opera in Marseille, La Monnaie of Bruxelles, at Opera of Lyon, at Hercules Sall of Munich in Germany, at Sala Nezahualcoyotl of Mexico City, at Sao Carlos of Lisbon,at 43rd International Festival of Osaka.  In USA he has performed at Washington National Opera, Seattle Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Metropolitan Opera New York.

Verdi” in Milan, Symphonic Orchestra Toscanini, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of San Petersrburg, “la Orquesta de Galicia”, “Orchestre National de Montpellier”, London’s Philarmonia Orchestra”, “Orchestre National de Belgique”, Bayerische Staatsorchester” of Munich, Philarmonic of Montecarlo, ”Ensemble Orchestral de Paris”, “la Orquesta Filarmonica de Gran Canaria”, Philharmonic Lutowlasky of Wroclav, Soloists of Prague, Radio Orchestra of Rumania, Philharmonic Orchestra “G. Enescu” of Bucharest, New Tokyo City Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra.

The record company Supraphon published his Mirandolina. For Decca he recorded the recital of Juan Diego Florez dedicated to Bellini and Donizetti with Symphonic Orchestra “G.Verdi” in Milan which won Cannes Classical Award 2004, La fille du regiment, live recorded at  Teatro Carlo Felice in  Genova (DVD), and Matilde di Shabran. Dynamic published his  Nabucco in DVD/TDK and his Tancredi.

Frizza conducted Verdis’s Falstaff in Seattle and a new production of Armida at Metropolitan Opera with great reviews from public and critics. He was in Bilbao with Don Carlo, at Semperoper in Dresden with Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and he conducted a cycle of concerts at Seattle Symphony, Don Pasquale in Florence, Manon Lescaut in Verona, Anna Bolena in concert with Dresden Staatskapelle, Così fan tutte in Macerata, Lucrezia Borgia in San Francisco.

Most Recently: Trovatore in Venice, Luisa Miller in Bilbao, a cycle of concerts in Weimar, Les contes d’Hoffmann at Theater an der Wien.

His future plans include: Cenerentola in Paris-Bastille and Munich, Attila at An der Wien, Capuleti e Montecchi in San Francisco, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Munich, Otello in Frankfurt, Norma at Metropolitan in New York.
