Tenors Paul Appleby and Nicky Spence and mezzo-soprano Alice Coote star in the Metropolitan Opera's new production of composer Nico Muhly’s Two Boys on 21st October – 14th November. The opera, which premiered at English National Opera in 2011, sets a detective story involving the stabbing of a teenage boy by another within the ominous, tangled world of online intrigue.
The Wall Street Journal writes that Muhly’s lyrical vocal writing and score, “finds and exciting new musical language,” and The New York Times calls Two Boys, “a landmark in the career of an important artist…a work of dark beauty”.
Loosely based on real events, director Bartlett Sher’s production includes striking video projections by 59 Productions (Satyagraha, The Enchanted Island).
