Tanja Ariane Baumgartner Makes Royal Opera House Debut in Capriccio

Swizz mezzo-soprano Tanja Ariane Baumgartner will make her Royal Opera House debut in the role of Clarion in the sold-out concert productions of Richard Strauss’ last opera, Capriccio, on 19th and 21st July.  Ms Baumgartner will replace British mezzo-soprano Christine Rice, who has had to withdraw on advice from her doctor.

Ms Baumgartner joins soprano Renée Fleming, Christian Gerhaher and Joseph Kaiser under the director of Andrew Davis.

Ms Baumgartner’s recent roles include Princess Eboli in Don Carlo, Fricka in Das Rheingold and Die Walküre, the Princess of Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvrer and Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Frankfurt. She has been a member of the Ensemble of Frankfurt Opera since 2009.  She has also sung the roles of Charlotte in Die Soldaten and Countess Geschwitz in Lulu at the Salzburg Festival; the title role in Carmen in Basel and Nurse in Die Frau ohne Schatten for De Vlaamse Opera.
