Calidore String Quartet returns to The UK to co-host the BBC Radio 3 Big Chamber Weekend at Tetbury Music Festival. The former BBC New Generation Artists will give a series of concerts on 22 – 24 March featuring music by Prokofiev, Beethoven, Schumann, Caroline Shaw, Golijov and Chausson. The Quartet will be joined by fellow BBC New Generation Artists pianist Zee Zee and violinist Jennifer Pike.

Calidore then head to Florence to perform works by Mendelssohn, Janaček and Webern at Teatro della Pergola on 25 March, before returning to The UK for their 27 March concert at the Newcastle International Chamber Music Series at Sage Gatehead.

The Calidore String Quartet (violinists Jeffrey Myers and Ryan Meehan, violist Jeremy Berry and cellist Estelle Choi) has earned acclaim for its “deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct” (The New York Times) and for its balance of “intellect and expression” (The Los Angeles Times). Patrick Rucker writes in The Washington Post, “Four more individual musicians are unimaginable, yet these speak, breathe, think and feel as one…The grateful audience left enriched and, I suspect, a little more human than it arrived.” The 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipients regularly perform in prestigious venues throughout North America, Europe and Asia including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus, Cologne Philharmonie, Seoul’s Kumho Arts Hall and at the Verbier, Ravinia, Mostly Mozart, Music@Menlo, Rheingau, East Neuk and Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals. Within two years of their founding, the Calidore String Quartet won grand prizes in virtually all the major US chamber music competitions including the Fischoff, Coleman, Chesapeake and Yellow Springs competitions, and captured top prizes at the 2012 ARD Munich International String Quartet Competition and Hamburg International Chamber Music Competition.

In 2018, they made their BBC Proms debut giving the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw’s string quartet Three Essays.

The Calidore’s 2018/19 European season includes their return to Wigmore Hall and major series debuts in Munich, Copenhagen and the Netherlands.
