Following a successful debut in 2021/22 conducting the Vienna Volksoper’s production of Brahms’ A German Requiem, Christoph Altstaedt returns to conduct Martin Schläpfer’s new production of The Moon Wears A White Shirt. Featuring a potpourri of music by Schnittke, Ligeti, and Locatelli, the production premieres on 12 November, with further performances on 17, 22 November 2023, and 4, 9, 12 January 2024. Now a popular guest conductor at the Volksoper, Altstaedt returns for another engagement in 2024/25.
In between his performances in Vienna, Altstaedt conducts subscription concerts with Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra on 14 and 15 November 2023 at Konzerthaus Dortmund. The programme features Dvořák’s The Wild Dove, Korngold’s Violin Concerto with soloist Anna Tifu, and Dvořák’s New World Symphony No. 9. Read more here.
Christoph Altstaedt’s upcoming plans include a return to Vienna Staatsoper in 2025, following a superb debut in June 2023 conducting their staged production of Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten (The Seasons). Other recent and future engagements include Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony, George Enescu Philharmonic, Beethoven Bonn, Auckland Philharmonia, and tours with German National Youth Orchestra (2023), Australian Youth Orchestra (2024), as well as Netherlands Youth Orchestra and Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (2025). In the opera world last season, Altstaedt also made his debut at Cologne Opera, conducting a few performances of their new production of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman with the Gürzenich Orchestra in the pit.
