IMG Artists is delighted to announce that Claus Peter Flor has been named the Music Director of Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi. The initial three-year tenure will begin with the 2017/18 season.

Maestro Flor’s long-term relationship with the orchestra began in 2003 when its then Music Director (now Honorary Conductor) Riccardo Chailly invited him to become Principal Guest Conductor. Since then, the collaboration has evolved to be both artistically celebrated and one cherished by its audience.

Maestro Flor said: This appointment as Music Director is a great honour and pleasure for me. Thanks to these many years of collaboration, I feel devoted to La Verdi’s Orchestra and Choir. We now have the opportunity to build on this shared understanding and respect to create a unique sound and recognisable identity for the orchestra in Italy and beyond.

Ruben Jais, Executive and Artistic Director of La Verdi said: It is a great honour for all of us at the La Verdi Foundation to announce such an important development in our long-lasting relationship with Maestro Claus Peter Flor. Through the years, this partnership has created countless memorable concerts. We have no doubt that in his new position of Music Director of our Orchestra and Choir, these brilliant musical experiences will expand and continue to the delight of our musicians and audiences.

Respected worldwide as a conductor with instinctive and incisive musicianship, Claus Peter Flor maintains a prestigious international career. Born in Leipzig, Maestro Flor is renowned for his command and interpretation of Austro-Germanic repertoire as well as his great affinity for the music of Czech composers.

Other highlights of the 2017/18 season and beyond include his return to the Theâtre du Capitole in Toulouse to undertake a new production of Eugen d’Albert’s Tiefland as well as a revival of Nicolas Joel’s Die Walküre. He also returns to work with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale  in Turin, the Singapore Symphony, and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. In the 2018/19 season, Maestro Flor will also assume the newly-created Guest Conductor position of the Het Gelders Orkest, focussing on the works of Haydn, Beethoven and Bruckner.
