Mezzo-soprano Dorottya Láng is to make her debut as Judith in Bartók’s opera Bluebeard’s Castle on Friday, 15 November. The concert is taking place at the Tonhalle Dusseldorf in Germany under the baton of Adam Fischer with the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker.
The 2018/19 season saw Láng returning to the Hamburgische Staatsoper for the roles of Minerva in Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria and Hannah Arendtin in Benjamin. She also performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Wiener Symphoniker at the Wiener Konzerthaus under the baton of Andrés Orozco-Estrada and Fauré’s La Bonne Chanson in the Philharmonische Kammerkonzerte at the Elbphilharmonie. In the 2017/18 season, Láng had several appearances at the Wiener Konzerthaus as part of their Great Talent series.
Láng has received praise for her performances over the years. Roy Westbrook from Bachtrack comments “Dorottya Láng nonetheless gave voice to the yearning male protagonist quite unblushingly, but also quite superbly. Hers is a rich instrument especially in its middle register, and she made the wide span of the vocal line sound effortless. The top of the voice was secure and bright, and at times as fierce as the passion of the text.”
Following 15 November, there are two subsequent performances on November 17 and 18.
