Edgar Meyer’s new album, Bach Trios, sees the eminent double bassist/composer team up with long-time collaborators cellist Yo-Yo Ma and mandolinist Chris Thile. The album features arrangements of a selection of J.S. Bach’s compositions for keyboard instruments and a sonata for viola da gamba. The album, which will be released on Nonesuch on April 7th, is available for pre-order now at Barnes & Noble, iTunes, the Chris Thile Shop and the Nonesuch Store.
The musicians, who have won a combined 27 Grammy® Awards, last teamed up to release 2011’s The Goat Rodeo Sessions, an album of original tunes drawing from the musician’s backgrounds in bluegrass, classical and American Roots. The recording, which also featured Stuart Duncan, debuted at number 23 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart and number one on the classical, classical crossover and bluegrass charts – the latter at which it stayed for 11 weeks. The release received tremendous critical acclaim with the Los Angeles Times writing that the experience is “haunting, invigorating, often breathtaking.”
Meyer, Ma and Thile will celebrate the release with a nine-date US tour in April and May.
