Elena Stikhina gave a magnificent performance as Tosca in Opéra de Paris’ production on Saturday, 1 June, and will take to the stage in the role again on Wednesday, 5 June. The Lirico-spinto soprano jumped in for Sonya Yoncheva who withdrew for health reasons. Ms Stikhina is currently in rehearsal as Donna Leonora at Paris for their forthcoming production of Verdi’s La Forza del Destino. Later this summer, Ms Stikhina will make her Salzburg Festival debut in the title role of Simon Stone’s production of Cherubini’s Médée from 30 July – 19 August.

Following spectacular debuts at the Paris and Metropolitan Operas, Elena Stikhina is making waves in the opera world. Recent months have seen her triumph at the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Berlin Staatsoper, the Semperoper, the Baden Baden Festspielhaus and in concert with the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Munich Philharmonic and at the Philharmonie Paris.

Of her recent US debut as Tosca, The Boston Globe’s Jeremy Eichler writes, “In the title role on Friday was a gifted young Russian soprano named Elena Stikhina. …Stikhina’s voice has unusual allure, catching the ear with its combination of glow and penetration, lightness and strength, at times floating above the orchestra, at times slicing through it.”
