Maestro Michail Jurowski and his son Maestro Vladimir Jurowski have both been awarded prizes in the Orchestral Music category of the prestigious 2017 Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Prize). The recordings were selected from a shortlist of 288 recordings by a panel of 158 German, Austrian and Swiss music critics.
Michail Jurowski’s latest Berlin Classics CD, Michail Jurowski in Gohrisch (Shostakovich Festival) was recorded live with the Staatskapelle Dresden at the Shostakovich Festival. Jury member Rainer Wagner said that Michail Jurowski “demonstrated how one can combine empathy and emphasis: forcefully and intensively” and described the release as “a symphonic voyage of discovery”.
Vladimir Jurowski’s recent Hyperion release Medtner & Rachmaninov: Piano Concertos was recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist Mark-André Hamelin. Jury member Wiebke Roloff wrote that “Hamelin moves through the mercilessly tricky solo part with breath-taking security” and is “powerfully accompanied by Vladimir Jurowski and the London Philharmonic Orchestra”.
