Ilker Arcayürek’s highly anticipated debut album Der Einsame received rave reviews from critics. Both The Times and The Guardian awarded the album 5-stars, with the former describing the young tenor as being “in a class on his own” (The Guardian).
Reviewing the recording in The Times, Neil Fisher writes, “this BBC New Generation Artist sings with such freshness and sincerity that even his melancholy is sweetly compelling. Schubert… would love this wonderfully intimate recording”.
Erica Jeal (The Guardian) writes: “Ilker Arcayürek has the kind of airy, easily ringing tenor that puts across words beautifully, with power in reserve yet a hint of vulnerability too.”
The recording appears in Gramophone’s Recordings of the Year 2017: Editor’s Choice, with the prestigious magazine writing, “The ever-increasing tenor population in the Schubert song discography reaches a peak of sorts with Ilker Arcayürek’s intelligently conceived recital, executed with vocal freshness and an open-hearted quality…” (Gramophone). The recording also appears in Zeit’s top ten “Young Talent” albums of the year across all genres.
Ilker’s busy schedule continues into the new year with a Wigmore Hall recital with Simon Lepper in January, followed later in the Spring with dates at Heidelberger (April 13th) and Birmingham Town Hall (April 15th).
Not to be missed, Ilker sings Schubert’s Winterreise for the BBC which airs 26th December at 18.15 GMT.
