Ilker Arcayürek’s debut recording Franz Schubert: Der Einsame is released today on Champs Hill Records. Winner of the 2016 International Art Song Competition of Stuttgart’s Hugo Wolf Academy, Ilker Arcayürek is accompanied by pianist Simon Lepper on the recording.
Of the recording, Ilker said: “A running brook, a broken heart, the bitter-sweet release of death – few composers have succeeded in setting these varied images to music as transparently as Schubert did. His diverse emotional and musical world had me under its spell from an early age. This developed into such a thirst for more that now I can hardly wait to sing works by Schubert that are new to me. I let myself be guided by these feelings and try to bring them together in my singing in a sincere and unaffected way. For only then, when I myself am moved by the music, can I reach the listener.”
The young tenor, hailed for his “golden” voice (Opera Now), recently impressed audiences and critics at the 25th Jubilee Edition of Schubertíada de Vilabertran in Catalonia where Ilker performed the CD program. Of his performance in Catalonia, Revista Musical Catalana writes: “There aren’t many occasions when one is able to experience a recital so vividly… Ilker Arcayurek did more than sing the perfect lyrical line: he became the poem’s protagonist, transmitting intensely the emotions suggested by the score and the text… A voice of great beauty and sensibility, coming together in an unforgettable recital.”
