IMG Artists is delighted to welcome conductor Dirk Kaftan to its roster for general management. He will be represented by Harold Clarkson and Dr. Daniel-Frédéric Lebon from the Hanover Office.
Dirk Kaftan: “After inspiring encounters full of many good thoughts and energies, I am now looking forward to an exciting journey together with IMG Artists. Music rules!”
Gunlind Lohmann writes in General-Anzeiger (about the premiere of Lohengrin in the Bonn Opera House): “Just as [Kaftan] martially leads the brilliantly disposed Beethoven Orchester Bonn (BOB) into the battle, so he unfolds the enchanting Wagnerian sonority in other places. Even in those greatly vulnerable passages, the BOB keeps perfect unity. Kaftan drives the Orchestra, draws big lines, and captures the audience’s attention with exciting details. No matter whether crashing plates, folkloric swaying or tender love lyric, never are the audible joy of the performance and impetuosity attained at the expense of technical security and precision.”
Dirk Kaftan is celebrated for the enormous growth he has brought the Beethoven Orchester Bonn and the municipal opera house since becoming its music director. Not only did he raise the Orchestra’s standards to a level that “surpasses themselves” and “sets the bar to an even higher level, putting [the Beethoven Orchestra] to the top class of German opera orchestras” as Claus Ambrosius states in Rhein Zeitung (about Elektra under Kaftan’s musical direction), but he also nearly doubled the number of concert visitors in the orchestra’s home town in just his first season as its musical director (Zeit.de).
Kaftan gives performances all around Europe and is a welcomed guest conductor who is repeatedly invited, some of which include the Volksoper in Vienna, Royal Danish Opera House in Copenhagen, Oper Frankfurt, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, and Bregenzer Festspiele.
Before stepping into the position of general music director of the Beethoven Orchester Bonn and the municipal opera house in 2017, Kaftan previously served as the general music director in Augsburg and chief conductor in Graz.
