IMG Artists is thrilled to announce that it has signed baritone Rod Gilfry for general management. He will be represented by Vice President of Artist Management Sam Snook and Artist Manager Markus Beam from the company’s New York headquarters.
Called “the singer of choice for new American operas” (Anthony Tommasini, The New York Times), the two-time Grammy® nominated Gilfrey has been one of the most in-demand artists on the opera stage since his break-through in the 1998 premiere of André Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire, creating the role of Stanley Kowalski. This season marks his ninth and tenth role creations for world premieres: David Lang’s new one-man opera, The Loser at BAM’s Next Wave Festival in Brooklyn and for Jake Heggie’s It’s a Wonderful Life with Houston Grand Opera.
2016/17 highlights include his role debut as Wotan in Das Rheingold at Japan’s Biwako Hall Centre for the Performing Arts; the role of Claudiusin Brett Dean’s new production of Hamlet at Glyndebourne; and future appearances with the MET, LA Opera, Santa Fe Opera, at Walt Disney Hall and in Seoul.
In addition to his full performance schedule on the operatic, recital, concert and musical theater stages, Rod is an Associate Professor of Vocal Arts at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
Of the signing, Rod offered, “I am so excited to be joining the IMG Artists roster. IMG is such a respected name, and I love working with Sam Snook and Markus Beam. They have a wonderful energy and are completely engaged in the classical music world. I look forward to a wonderful collaboration for years to come!” and Sam and Markus exclaimed, “We are delighted to work with such a vibrant, versatile and celebrated artist as Rod Gilfry, and are looking forward to expanding his already broad repertoire as he continues to enjoy a thriving career.”
