IMG Artists Touring has been a major force in Hong Kong’s cultural landscape in October and November 2019. The German-based division has recently completed a successful of performances of Ibsen’s Ghosts with the Norwegian National Ballet, as part of the World Cultures Festival 2019 – The Nordics. It now embarks on an epic two-week retrospective at the beautiful Taikwun Center: Projekt Berlin (4 – 17 November).
Projekt Berlin will feature 3 concerts of music created in and inspired by Berlin, from baroque to contemporary, performed by the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra. The programme also features a series of masterclasses, educational events, German film and more. The project will host the incomparable Ute Lemper and her ensemble performing a dazzling array of cabaret songs and lieder from 1920s Berlin.
The Norwegian National Ballet performed its signature work Ghosts, based on Ibsen’s classic and controversial play, at Kwai Tsing Theatre Auditorium. The unconventional ballet reinterprets the work to examine modern human nature and societal taboos. Directed by Ibsen specialist Marit Moum Aune, with choreography by Cina Espejord, the 61-member company uses everyday movements and subverts conventional dance forms to depict power and gender struggles. Its multi-level sets provide a counterpoint to realism and interweave the characters’ past and present selves in this award winning production.
