IMG Artists is delighted to welcome conductor Jonathan Darlington to its roster for General Management. Winner of the Chevalier des Arts et des letters, Duisburg Mercartorplakette and awarded Hon FRAM, he will be represented by Federico M. Benigni from the company’s London office and Rome.
Jonathan is currently Music Director Emeritus at Vancouver Opera, having recently completed a highly successful term of almost 20 years as Music Director. He has led the innovative company in a repertoire ranging from Mozart through Verdi, Puccini and Strauss to Tan Dun and Jake Heggie. Born and educated in England, he now resides in Paris.
He says, ” I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to the IMG fold for my general management, and specifically to be working alongside the young and dynamic Federico M. Benigni who will be looking after me for the forseeable future.”
Federico says, “Jonathan is one of the most sought after conductors of his generation, with incredible experiences throughout the world, on a very wide and eclectic repertoire. I’m glad to have him on board with us and to develop further many projects and ideas, sharing his knowledge and talent, always at the service of Music!”
Jonathan possesses a vast symphonic and operatic repertoire from the Baroque to the Contemporary, and has a reputation for structuring concert programs that take the listener on a fascinating musical journey owing to their strong inner dramaturgical thread. “Flat-out, hyper-emotional reading…” (Vancouver Sun), “Dazzling…” (Upsala Nya Tidning), “Unerring sense of pace and drama…” (Limelight Magazine), “Creative musicality…” (Backtrack Australia), “Sensitive…” (Toronto Star) are epithets which figure repeatedly in reviews of his work.
