IMG Artists is delighted to welcome the celebrated Estonian dramatic Soprano Aile Asszonyi to its roster for General Management. She will be represented by EVP – Global Head of Vocal Matthew A. Horner from the company’s New York headquarters.
The “sublime” (BR Klassik) Aile Asszonyi is praised for her “clear…richly coloured” (Kulturfreak) and “brilliant, explosive and powerful voice” (Online Merker) as well as her “enthralling acting” (HR2Frühkritik). Winner of the “Prix des Donateurs du Concours Reine Elisabeth at Belgium’s Queen Elisabeth Competition, Aile’s performances in world premieres include the title role in Zora D. and Kali in Dve glave i devoijka, both by Isidora Zebeljan; and Sofia Gubaidulina’s oratorio Über Liebe und Hass. Her current repertoire includes Venus / Elisabeth (double-role) in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Madre in Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero, Frau in Hindemith’s Mörder, Hoffnung der Frauen, Prothoe in Penthesilea by Othmar Schoeck, Senta in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco, Ghita in Zemlinky’s Der Zwerg, third Norn / Gutrune in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, Fata Morgana in Prokofiev’s L’amour des trois oranges, Isolde in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Turandot in Puccini’s Turandot and Elektra in Strauss’s Elektra.
In 2022/23, she received universal acclaim and “a hurricane of applause” (Faust Kultur) for her performances as Elektra in three new productions, including her long-awaited Opera Frankfurt debut in a new production by Claus Guth with conductor Sebastian Weigle; Giancarlo del Monaco’s production at Theater Erfurth with conductor Alexander Prior; and Johannes Reitmeier’s production for Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck with conductor Lukas Beikircher. Wolf-Dieter Peter in NMZ notes that this, “will ensure her breakthrough as a dramatic soprano at the big opera houses.”
Additional recent highlights include her Bayreuther Festspiele debut as Gutrune in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung and Isolde in Wagners’ Tristan und Isolde at the Birgitta Festival Tallinn.
Forthcoming highlights include her role debut as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung); and performances as Elektra (Elektra), Turandot (Tudandot), Isolde (Tristan und Isolde), Gutrune (Götterdämmerung), Senta (Der fliegende Holländer), Katerina Izmailova (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and Die Färberin (Die Frau ohne Schatten).
Aile Asszonyi studied singing at the Estonian Academy of Music, the Opera Studio Amsterdam and the academy of Carlo Bergonzi in Italy. She currently lives in the Netherlands with her husband and son.
