London Debut for Pianist Yeol Eum Son and Album of the Week on Classic FM | IMG Artists

This week, pianist Yeol Eum Son releases her debut concerto album recorded with the Academy of St Martin in The Fields and Sir Neville Marriner. An all-Mozart concerto recording was the last Sir Neville Marriner recorded and has been selected by Classic FM as their Album of the Week.

Classic FM said: “Many will be emotionally invested in hearing the last recording to feature the much-missed conductor Sir Neville Marriner, and he does indeed display typically sensitive control of his ensemble – but this takes nothing away from the ingenious performance of pianist Yeol Eum Son in one of Mozart’s most-played works. There are so many details to admire here, and the partnership of Son and Marriner proves to have been a very musically fruitful one.”

Much anticipated CD features Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C and Mozart’s solo works: Sonata K330, C Minor Fantasy K475 and Variations on ‘Lison dormait’ K264.

The Onyx album release coincides with Yeol Eum’s London debut at Cadogan Hall on 20 April, where she interprets two concerti by Mozart: Mozart Piano Concerto No. 8 in C and Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21 in C. The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, under the leadership of Tomo Keller, will also perform Haydn L’isola disabitata Overture and Haydn Symphony No. 86 in D major. The concert will be recorded by Classic FM for deferred broadcast.

Further ahead, Yeol Eum Son embarks on a recital tour to the USA with debuts at The Phillips Collection in Washington DC, Chamber Music San Francisco and at Zipper Hall in Los Angeles; recital debut at East Neuk Festival in the UK, and performs Dvorak’s Piano Concerto with Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. In the summer, Yeol Eum makes her debut appearance as Artistic Director of the PyeongChang Chamber Music Festival.
