This week, Mihhail Gerts makes his Australian debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, conducting four concerts at the Sydney Opera House from 08-11 March. The programme opens with the world premiere of a new work by Australian composer Miriama Young, followed by Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Concerto performed by pianist Marie-Ange Nguci, concluding with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, in the iconic orchestration by Maurice Ravel.

In an interview with the SSO, Gerts explains, “It is a wonderful programme, Saint-Saëns is a fantastic composer; he was really a giant. And Pictures at an Exhibition gives me goose bumps. I feel the way Mussorgsky felt when he observed the pictures. And I’m sure that will transmit itself to the audience.”
