The Latin Recording Academy has announced the nominees for the 20th annual Latin Grammy Awards and Nella has been nominated for Best New Artist after the release of her album Voy, written and produced by Javier Limón (Casa Limón/IMG Artists). The Venezuelan singer and Berklee College of Music graduate joined IMG Artists early in 2018. Whilst at Berklee she was renowned as a soloist and is known to describe her music as “a meeting place for her country’s folklore roots, the influence of my contemporaries, and the music of the Andalusian region.”
Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Gustavo Dudamel says “Nella is a new voice and important artist from the Americas. I have been lucky to collaborate with her and deeply respect her distinctive and soulful artistry.”
Voy features 13 songs, all but one with words and music by Javier Limón and includes guest appearances by Spanish flamenco singer Alba Molina (the daughter of the fabled flamenco duo Lole y Manuel); string player Santiago Prieto, from Latin Grammy-winning Colombian band Monsieur Periné; and two outstanding Venezuelan musicians, cuatro phenomenon Jorge Glem, and singer and composer Ilan Chester, a Latin Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement
Nella embarks on her first North American tour in October 2019, and will be accompanied by a trio featuring guitar, bass and percussion.
The final round of voting to determine Latin Grammy® winners will begin October 3. The recipients will be revealed by The Latin Recording Academy on November 14 at the 20th Annual Latin Grammy Awards’ Premiere and Telecast ceremony. The awards are set to broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on the Univision Network from 8–11 p.m. ET/PT.
