Venezuelan-born singer-songwriter Nella was named Best New Artist at the 20th Latin GRAMMY® Awards on November 14. The award was announced during the ceremony at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, and broadcast live on Univision. Nella’s debut album Voy (IMG/Casa Limón) was produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning producer, composer and guitarist Javier Limón.
Nella came out on top of a strong and diverse group of nominees for Best New Artist, which included Aitana, Burning Caravan, Cami, Fer Casillas, Chipi Chacón, Elsa y Elmar, Greeicy, Juan Ingaramo and Paulo Londra.
She also thrilled the Latin GRAMMY® Award’s audience with her performance with the legendary Alejandro Sanz and fellow nominees Greeicy and Aitana.
Nella’s music is a meeting place for her country’s folklore roots, the influence of her contemporaries, and the music of the Andalusian region. The New York Times writes of Voy, “Nella…can convey flamenco tension even in a near-whisper. …[Her songs] are poetic outpourings of longing and resolve accompanied by…pristine acoustic picking, with Iberian and Latin American underpinnings. The title song, “Voy” (“I Go”), is about leaving everything behind; there’s proud determination behind its delicacy.”
Following sold-out shows in NYC, Miami, The UK and her native Venezuela, Nella is currently enchanting fans on tour throughout The US.
