Renée Fleming Stars in London Production of The Light in the Piazza From June 2019

Renée Fleming will headline the London premiere production of The Light in the Piazza from June 2019. Ms Fleming, who earned a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway musical debut in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, will play Margaret Johnson at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. The show runs from 14 June – 5 July, 2019.

Ms Fleming will be joined by Dove Cameron (Hairspray Live!, Off-Broadway’s Clueless) as Margaret’s daughter Clara with additional casting to be announced at a later date. Olivier Award winning actor and director Daniel Evans will helm this production of Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel’s award winning musical.

Based on Elizabeth Spencer’s 1960 novel (which was adapted for the screen in 1962), the show tells the story of Margaret and Clara Johnson, a mother and daughter who, while vacationing in Florence, encounter a young Italian man. As he and Clara quickly fall in love, Margaret must reconcile her daughter’s pursuit of happiness with a family secret that could threaten their romance.

Listen to Renée Fleming sing “Fable” from The Light in the Piazza on her new best-selling album Broadway (Decca).
