Directed by Stephen Langridge, the production opens on 16 May 2019, with further performances thereafter on 19, 21, 24, and 26 May before it revives on 31 August, 6, 8, 13, and 15 September 2019. The cast features Mattias Ermedahl and Ida Falk Winland as Count and Countess Almaviva, Mia Karlsson and Sofie Asplund as Susanna, and Henning von Schulman in the title role.
His next major opera project will be in February 2020 when he conducts the Australian premiere of Romeo Castellucci’s staged production of Mozart Requiem for the Adelaide Festival. It is first being performed by Raphael Pichon for Festival d’Aix en Provence this Summer.
Rory Macdonald conducted two hugely performances of Peter Grimes for Brisbane Opera earlier this season, featuring Stuart Skelton in the title role, of which the critic in the Australian wrote: “The Queensland Symphony Orchestra under Rory Macdonald tore the thing apart, the tempo frantic but the articulation crisp, as it was throughout what might well be the QSO’s best performance of the year”. He opened last season with Fra Diavolo for Rome Opera, and subsequently conducted Cosi fan Tutte for Frankfurt Opera who immediately offered him a production of Le nozze di Figaro in 2020/21.
