IMG Artists is delighted to announce that Rune Bergmann is named the new Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Mieczysła Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, Poland. He will take up the role from the beginning of the 2016/17 season in the city’s renowned, new philharmonic hall.

An energetic and compelling figure on the podium, the Norwegian is considered one of the brightest stars of the current generation of young Scandinavian conductors, and is in growing demand with orchestras throughout Europe and North America.

Since 2013, he has been Principal Guest Conductor of Lithuania’s Kaunas City Orchestra and Artistic Director of Norway’s innovative Fjord Cadenza since its inception in 2010. He made his debut with the Szczecin Philharmonic in March 2016 with a programme featuring works by Gershwin, Sibelius and Nielsen, with pianist Freddy Kempf as soloist. Additional highlights from spring 2016 include his debuts with the Calgary Philharmonic and Detroit and Houston symphonies.

Rune’s infectious enthusiasm for the orchestra and his artistic goals are evident from the start. He says:

“The sky is the limit for this orchestra. My great desire and aim is, together with the musicians, to make this orchestra an important destination on the musical map of the world. Now is the time for us to get to know each other and find our way together. This is a truly hard-working orchestra with huge potential. I promise that the audience will feel the new energy emanating from the symphonic hall. I feel amazingly good on stage with them.”
