IMG Artists is delighted to announce that Stéphane Denève will lead Dutch National Opera’s new production of Pelléas et Mélisande with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra later this season.
The production of Debussy’s operatic masterwork, directed by Olivier Py for the Holland Festival and featuring Paul Appleby and Elena Tsallagova in the title roles, will be premiered on 5th June and will be performed seven times between then and June 27th.
Stéphane Denève, currently Music Director of the Brussels Philharmonic, Principal Guest Conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and Music Director Designate of the St. Louis Symphony, has enjoyed a close association in recent years with both the Dutch National Opera and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He led critically-acclaimed performances of Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites for the opera in 2015, and has appeared with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in each of the past four seasons, most recently conducting three performances in Amsterdam and Rotterdam of Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bȗcher. He has also participated in two recent recordings with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra – the Poulenc Concerto for Two Pianos with Lucas and Arthur Jussen, and the latest instalment of the orchestra’s new music anthology, Horizon.
