Tabla superstar Zakir Hussain was honoured on 18 January with SFJAZZ’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

“The pre-eminent classical table virtuoso of our time, Zakir Hussain is an international phenomenon in the field of percussion and in the music world at large. He is one of the world’s most esteemed and influential musicians and widely considered a chief architect of the contemporary world music movement.”
The ceremony, held at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco, featured a once-in-a-lifetime concert featuring some of the biggest names in jazz, world and contemporary classical music including Joe Lovano, Bill Frisell, Terence Blanchard, Joshua Redman, Stefon Harris, Cindy Blackman Santana, Mary Stallings, Kronos Quartet, John Santos, John Handy, Eric Harland, the SFJAZZ Collective and many more.
