Biography
Stefan Geiger is the chief conductor of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Paraná since 2016.
Growing up in a very musical family, he started to play the piano, violin, drums and trombone at only five years old. Stefan Geiger was a scholar of the German Academic Foundation Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and won different international prices (1989 at Concours International du Festival de Musique de Toulon; 1992 at Festival Prager Frühling).
Stefan Geiger started his career at a young age: First starting as a solo trombonist at Munich´s Bayrische Staatsoper which was followed in the same position at the NDR Elbphilharmonic Orchestra Hamburg.
In 1996, after graduating as a conductor and finishing assisting for Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev and Christoph von Dohnanyi, Geiger became the Artistic Diretcor of the Landesjugendorchester Bremen. In the years of 2002-2007 he also conducted the HFK orchestra of Bremen (Hochschule für Künste Bremen).
Stefan Geiger has appeared as a guest conductor with numerous orchestras such as the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchester, Ensemble Resonanz, Würzburger Philharmonikern, Nürnberger Symphonikern, Deutschen Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra de Câmara da Cidade de Curitiba, Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre, Banater Philharmonie, Romanian Radio Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica da Universidade de Sao Paulo at the Sala Sao Paulo and the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra at the Teatro Colon in Argentinia. Furthermore, he has joined the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester Hamburg as a guest conductor for several years.
