Wolfe Bowart - Letter’s End
Shows and Attractions
If your mind were a room and your life’s memories lost in a jumble of old boxes, what forgotten treasures might you find? In Letter’s End, visual theatre playwright/performer Wolfe Bowart weaves together clown theatre and circus skill, stage illusion and puppetry, interactive film and physical comedy to create a unique whole-stage visual composition for audiences of all ages. 2009 marked the world premiere of Letter’s End in Australia, which led to one of the largest national Australian tours in recent history. Subsequent stand-alone seasons took place at the Arts Centre Melbourne, the Playhouse at Brisbane’s QPAC, Hobart’s Theatre Royal, the Adelaide Festival Centre and Perth’s State Theatre Centre. In 2010, Letter’s End was nominated for a Helpmann Award®, the Australian equivalent of the Olivier Awards, in the category of Best Touring Production. Letter’s End has subsequently premiered in Hong Kong, and 2013 marks its UK premiere. Bowart’s season of Letter’s End at London’s Southbank Centre is part of the 2013 London International Mime Festival, the leading festival for contemporary visual theatre.
“The show combines comedy and pathos, mime, magic and sleight of hand, shadow puppetry, film and sound in an exemplary and enchanting mix…The sheer amount of invention is staggering.”
“Letter’s End is consummate entertainment. This is a piece of theatre that gets more interesting the more you think about it. It is intricately conceived and effortlessly executed.”
