Constantin Trinks makes his debut at Glyndebourne Festival this summer, conducting Barbe & Doucet’s production of Die Zauberflöte, featuring the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and soprano Ann Toomey as First Lady. Juggling a busy diary of operatic engagements with symphonic performances, Trinks’ upcoming highlights include his debut at Staatsoper Berlin with Die Frau ohne Schatten, Die Fledermaus in the Bayerische Staatsoper summer Festspiele, Siegfried at Leipzig Opera, Lohengrin at Sofia Opera and symphonic engagements with the Munich Chamber Orchestra and MDR-Sinfonieorchester Leipzig.
Recently he returned to Norwegian Opera for La Traviata, Teatro di San Carlo in Napoli for Don Giovanni, and the Bayerische Staatsoper for Fidelio and Parsifal, conducted a gala concert at the Bayreuth Festival, and led the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen, Tristan und Isolde, and Parsifal at Sofia National Opera. Recent orchestral successes include subscription concerts with Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, National Orchestra of Belgium and the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. His award-winning discography includes the world premiere recording of Wilhelm Petersen’s Symphony No. 3 with Frankfurt Radio Symphony on Profil label, which received an Opus Klassik award for Symphonic Recording of the Year in 2023, and a live recording of Hans Rott’s Symphony No. 1 with Salzburg’s Mozarteum Orchestra, also on Profil, which received an ECHO Klassik award in 2017.
After separate beginnings in dance, theatre, television and the opera field, Renaud Doucet, Stage director & Choreographer, and André Barbe, Set & Costume Designer, created together over 40 new opera productions that are internationally recognised for their creativity, sense of spectacle and minutely detailed dramaturgy. Recent productions include La Cenerentola, La Belle Hélène and Die Fledermaus at the Staatsoper Hamburg, La Fille Du Régiment at Teatro La Fenice, Il Signor Bruschino at the Rossini Opera Festival & Teatro Comunale di Bologna, La Cenerentola at the Latvian National Opera, Pelleas Et Melisande at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Samson & Dalila at the Kungliga Operan in Stockholm, and many more. In 2019, their production of Il Bravo by Mercadante received the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Opera Production.
American soprano Ann Toomey, whom Naples Daily News proclaimed, “…is a brilliant Floria Tosca…[whose] rich voice projects power that doesn’t disintegrate under adversity” is a former member of the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, a 2016 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions national semifinalist and 2019 Richard F. Gold Career Grant Recipient. Recently, she made her European debut, to critical acclaim, performing the title role in Suor Angelica at the Berlin Philharmonie, under the baton of Kirill Petrenko. Highlights of the 2023/24 season include Woglinde in Das Rheingold with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, Meg Page in Sir John in Love as well as a crossover recital at Bard SummerScape, as well as the cover of Micaëla in Carmen.
