Alena Hron Conducts Complete Orchestral Works by Kaprálová on a New Album with the Janáček Philharmonic

29 Apr 2024

The Janáček Philharmonic, under the baton of Alena Hron, has released a rare recording of the complete orchestral works by the Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová on the German label cpo. The album also contains the world premiere of Fanfare for Brass and Timpani, one of her last compositions. Kaprálová is considered one of the most talented Czech composers and conductors, whose life was cut short in 1940 when she was only 25 years old.

Jan Žemla, Director of the Janáček Philharmonic says: “It gives me joy that our orchestra is the first to manage to record all completed orchestral works by Vítězslava Kaprálová, a phenomenon among Czech composers and a reminder that the female element in music has been unjustly neglected. This is also evident in our collaboration with Alena Hron whom I am sure we will continue to hear a lot about. We are thrilled that our collaboration with Alena has been recorded for future generations.”
