Ana María Patiño-Osorio Jumps in to Conduct OSR and Bertrand Chamayou on 16 May 2024

Ana María Patiño-Osorio jumps in last minute to conduct L’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and pianist Bertrand Chamayou in a subscription concert on 16 May. Ana Maria, who is the orchestra’s Assistant Conductor, replaces Krzysztof Urbanski who is unfortunately unwell.

The programme features Satie’s Gymnopédies No. 1 and 3, for orchestra (orchestration Claude Debussy), Ravel’s Concerto for piano and orchestra in G Major and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.

This concert follow’s Ana María’s triumph at the 2024 Malko Competition, where she won Second Prize, the Audience Prize and the Youth Jury Prize. Now in her second season as Assistant Conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande for the 2022-23 season (extended for 2023-24), she has been gathering praise as a remarkable conductor expressing wisdom, finesse, and deep respect for music.

Recent successes include conducting the Iberacademy Orchestra at Mozart Week in Salzburg, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Orchestra Sinfonía por el Peru, the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, Philharmonic of Bogota, the National Symphony Orchestra of Uruguay (SODRE), the Meininger Staatstheather, the École de Musique de Genève Orchestre, EAFIT Symphony Orchestra, Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra and the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Colombia among others.

Ana María’s began her musical training as a saxophonist before transitioning into orchestral conducting. She completed her undergraduate degree in Orchestra Conducting at the Universidad EAFIT in Medellin before being accepted to the prestigious master’s programme of Orchestral Conducting at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste as a student of Johannes Schlaefli, where she graduated with honours in 2021.  During that time, she has attended several masterclasses with Herbert Bloomsted, Matthias Pintscher, Thomas Adès and Olaris Elt, and was invited by Bernard Haitink to the Lucerne Music Festival in Switzerland.  Since 2015 she has also been involved with Iberacademy Orchestra in Medellín where she has been assisting its co-founder and conductor Roberto González-Monjas in multitude of projects and has conducted the orchestra as a guest conductor.
