Heldentenor Brenden Gunnell makes his Boston Symphony Orchestra debut under the baton of Andris Nelsons as Sergei in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk on the 25 and 27 January. The opera will also show at Carnegie Hall on the 30 January, marking another debut for Brenden, and will be recorded for release on Deutsche Grammophon. Known for his “wonderfully bright, powerful, clear and phonetically flawless tenor” (Leipziger Volkszeitung), Brenden Gunnell has fast established himself as a key player in the next generation of heldentenors. His 2023/24 concert engagements include Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and Sylvain Cambreling, and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Alpesh Chauhan.
