Calidore String Quartet Gives Virtual World Premiere by Hannah Lash for the Shriver Hall Concert Series in Baltimore

30 Mar 2021

The Calidore String Quartet will perform the world premiere of Hannah Lash’s String Quartet No. 1 in a streamed performance presented by the Shriver Hall Concert Series. The stream will be broadcast at 5:30pm EDT on Sunday, May 2, and afterwards will be available on demand through Sunday, May 9, at 11:59pm EDT. In addition to the premiere of Lash’s work, the program will include Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, Op. 96 “American” and Schubert’s String Quartet No. 15 in G Major, D. 887. Viewers will have access as well to a post-concert Q&A session with the Quartet moderated by Shriver Hall Concert Series Executive Director Catherine Cochran.

Lash explains, “this piece seeks to place itself within the context of large string quartets, while simultaneously breaking from the genre altogether in the third movement,” during which a song is vocalized by the cellist. The Quartet adds, “We are thrilled to be able to present this virtual performance for the Shriver Hall Concert Series! We have an exciting program prepared with two of the great masterworks ever written for string quartet paired with a never heard virtual premiere of String Quartet No. 1 by Hannah Lash.”

The Quartet will give the live audience premiere of Lash’s work at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA, on February 17, 2022.
