Frank Dupree Makes His Philharmonia Orchestra Debut with UK Premiere of Kapustin’s Piano Concerto No. 5

6 Mar 2024

Pianist Frank Dupree makes his debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra and its Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, in a trio of concerts on 6-8 March in Basingstoke, London and Manchester. Dupree will perform the UK premiere of Kapustin’s Piano Concerto No. 5 and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. The programme also features Borodin’s Symphony No. 2. More information and tickets are available here.

“The astonishing Frank Dupree”, a pianist whose playing “make[s] you smile and shake your head in disbelief” (Gramophone), has made it his mission to bring Kapustin’s music to a wider audience, and it’s well worth discovering. The energy of big band jazz meets virtuosic orchestration and solo piano writing of such freedom and creativity that it feels like improvisation.
