Gabriela Montero Begins Tenures as Artist-in-Residence with Basel and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra

Internationally acclaimed pianist-composer Gabriela Montero begins her tenures as Artist-in-Residence with the Sinfonieorchester Basel in September and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in October.

Montero will perform Mozart’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 24 in C minor, KV 491 with Sinfonieorchester Basel and conductor Ivor Bolton at Stadtcasino Basel on 1 and 2 September, as well as for children in a special schools concert on 3 September. She returns on 25 September to perform her Latin Grammy® award-winning Latin Concerto with the orchestra and conductor Elim Chan. On 10 April, she will be joined by the Belcea Quartet at Gare du Nord for a special “promenade” concert featuring Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57. Montero concludes her season with Basel on 26 April with her spectacular recital programme featuring her live improvisation to Charlie Chaplin’s 1917 film, The Immigrant as well as Prokofiev’s Sarcasms, Op. 17, Rachmaninov’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 26 and Stravinsky’s Piano Sonata.

On 1 October, Montero will begin her tenure as Artist-in-Residence with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra during their season opening gala at Dvořák Hall. She will perform Tchaikovsky’s Concerto in B-fat minor with Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Alexander Liebreich. She will return on 21 February to perform Mozart’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 14 in E-flat Major, K. 449 and Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in C minor, Op. 35 with the orchestra under conductor Marek Šedivý.
