GRAMMY® Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell commences his six-date European recital tour with pianist Shai Wosner from 24 February. Bell and Wosner will perform three recitals in Switzerland, followed by performances in England, Sweden and Germany. The programme features Brahms’ Violin Sonata No.2 in A Major, Schubert’s Fantasy for Violin and Piano in C Major, Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir d’un lieu cher: Meditation, and Stravinksy’s Divertimento (Fairy’s Kiss). The final recital on the 04 March in Hamburg, Germany will be Bell’s concluding performance as Artist In Residence of the NDR Elbphilharmonie for the 23/24 season. Bell’s highlights in the 23/24 season included an international tour of his newly-commissioned project, The Elements, featuring works by renowned composers representing each of the five elements. Composers include Jake Heggie (Fire), Jennifer Higdon (Air), Edgar Meyer (Water), Jessie Montgomery (Space), and Kevin Puts (Earth). The work received its premiere performances with the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Hong Kong Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Bell also led the Academy of St Martin in the Fields on tour in Australia, and will perform with them throughout the United States in March 2024.
In summer 2023, Bell released his new album on Sony Classical, Butterfly Lovers. The record features the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto by Chen Gang and He Zhanhao, newly arranged for a traditional Chinese orchestra conducted by Tsung Yeh.
