KIRILL GERSTEIN COMMENCES HIS 2024 AUSTRALIA RECITAL TOUR

14 Jun 2024

On the 10 June 2024, Kirill Gerstein embarked on his eight-date recital tour in Australia. The programme scales new heights of virtuosity: Liszt’s power Polonaise in E and Schumann’s Viennese romp, Carnival of Vienna. In the same program, he dives deep into the profundity of Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie, and gives the world premiere of Transcendental Etude, a new commission from Australian Liza Lim.

Applauding Gerstein for his opening night at Hobart Town Hall in Tasmania, Peter Donnelly from Limelight wrote, “He commands a superb technique combined with a remarkable variety of touch, dynamic range and feeling for textural variety in the piano sound.”

Writing of his second recital at Melbourne Recital Centre, Joshua So from Arts Hub exclaimed, ” ‘Vivace’, the Italian word for ‘spirited and lively’ in the vocabulary of music, is perhaps the most concise way to summarise Kirill Gerstein’s playing. Armed with a lifetime of practice and dedication to piano, the Russian-American virtuoso manages to combine the bravado of classical and romantic period pieces with the freshness of contemporary piano-playing styles…Clocking in at 90 minutes, the period-spanning performance leaves one reflecting on the dedication Gerstein has for this artform, and wondering how he manages to understand all of it so richly.”

The recital tour runs until the 23 June, concluding at Perth Concert Hall. More information and tickets are available below.
