Roberto González-Monjas Returns to Opéra National de Bordeaux to Conduct La Bohème

Roberto González-Monjas makes his much-anticipated return to Opéra National de Bordeaux to conduct the Emmanuelle Bastet production of Puccini’s La Bohème.

The production stars Juliana Grigoryan as Mimì, Arturo Chacón-Cruz as Rodolfo, Thomas Dolié as Marcello, Timothée Varon as Schaunard, Goderdzi Janelidze as Colline, Francesca Pia Vitale as Musetta, Marc Labonnette as Benoît, Loïck Cassin as Alcindoro, Woosang Kim as Parpignol, Jean-Philippe Fourcade and Pierre Guillou as a Seargeant, Olivier Dubois and Jean-Marc Bonicel as Un Douanier and Luc Default and Mitesh Khatri as Un Marchand; with l’Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, le Chœur de l’Opéra National de Bordeaux (Salvatore Caputo, music director) and Jeune Académie Vocale d’Aquitaine (Marie Chavanel, music director).

La Bohème takes place at the Grand Théâtre on 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28 April.

Roberto is a frequent and much appreciated guest conductor of the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine conducting regularly both symphonic programmes as well as opera productions. He is growing his already strong presence in France with his February 2024 debut with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and 2023 debut with Orchestre de chambre de Paris, where he returns in July this year. In recent seasons, Roberto has frequently conducted and play/directed Orchestre national d’Île-de-France at the Philharmonie de Paris.

Further significant highlights of the 23/24 season include performances of Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion with the Musikkollegium Winterthur, Respighi’s Roman Trilogy at the Barbican Hall, the world première of Diana Syrse’s “Quetzalcoátl”, a South Korean tour with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and appearances at the Mozartwoche and the Salzburg Festival with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg. In the 23/24 season, Roberto makes debuts with the Orchestre National Capitole Toulouse, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.. In the upcoming seasons, Roberto makes further debuts with ensembles such as the Oslo Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Baltimore Symphony and Spanish National Symphony Orchestra, among many others.

Roberto is currently a Chief Conductor of the Musikkollegium Winterthur in Switzerland (since August 2021), Music Director of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra in Spain (since August 2023), and designate Chief Conductor of the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, (beginning September 2024). In addition, Roberto is Principal Guest Conductor of the Belgian National Orchestra (since September 2022) and Artistic Director of Iberacademy in Colombia. The Dalasinfoniettan in Sweden named him Honorary Conductor following a four-year tenure as their Chief Conductor.
