Stained Glass – The New Album from Johan Dalene is Out Now

4 Sep 2023

Violinist Johan Dalene reunites with pianist Christian Ihle Hadland for their new album, Stained Glass. The recording features two core works of the 20th century: violin sonatas by Ravel and Prokofiev; and pieces by Arvo Pärt, Lilli Boulanger Grażyna Bacewicz. Stained Glass is available now on BIS.

Winner of the 2019 Carl Nielsen Competition and Gramophone Young Artist of the Year in 2022, Johan Dalene’s playing has been described by the magazine as having a wondrous tone, an elegant straightforwardness and a freshness of utterance that alerts you to characteristics of a phrase without reinventing it.”

Johan’s previous releases feature the Nielsen and Sibelius Violin Concertos (Gramophone Editor’s Choice and 2023 Swedish Grammis Award for Best Classical), the Nordic Rhapsody recital album, also with Christian Ihle Hadland (Diapason d’or and Gramophone Editor’s Choice) and Johan’s debut recording of the Tchaikovsky and Barber violin concertos, which the BBC Music Magazine described as “one of the finest violin débuts of the last decade”.
