Stéphane Denève returns to Asia this weekend to conduct two programmes with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. The programme for the concerts on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June features Dukas’ “La Péri: poème dansé” (with its appended fanfare), Ravel’s “Schéhérazade” featuring mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac, Debussy’s “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune” and Florent Schmitt’s “La tragédie de Salomé: ballet suite”. The programme for the concerts on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 June features Poulenc’s “Les biches: ballet suite” and Organ Concerto G Minor, with organist Olivier Latry, and Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”. On 23 June, Stéphane will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra in John Williams’ 90th Birthday Gala Concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. This event is part of the Kennedy Center and National Symphony Orchestra’s official celebration of John Williams’ life and his iconic music. Special guests include Yo-Yo Ma, Steven Spielberg, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and more. More information and tickets are available here.
At the end of month, Stéphane will return to Brussels to conduct Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe” in his final performance as Chief Conductor of the Brussels Philharmonic, before he assumes the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023. Stéphane also conducted the Brussels Philharmonic earlier this month in the finals of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, won this year by cellist Hayoung Choi.
