Thomas Dausgaard Named Principal Guest Conductor of RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir from the 2024-2025 Season

Renowned Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir from the 2024-2025 season.

Thomas Dausgaard, born in Copenhagen in 1963, brings a wealth of international acclaim and artistic vision to his new role. Known for his profound musicality, innovative programming, and dedication to societal issues through music, Dausgaard’s appointment signals a dynamic new chapter for the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir.

Having recently concluded his tenure as Chief Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, where he served from 2016 to 2022, Dausgaard’s illustrious career also includes positions as Laureate Conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Honorary Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra della Toscana. He has previously held roles as Principal Guest Conductor and Music Director of the Seattle Symphony.

Dausgaard’s extensive experience as a guest conductor spans some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Vienna Philharmonic, and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others. His global reach extends to collaborations with esteemed ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestra, solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in the classical music world.

Known for his innovative programming, Dausgaard’s “Roots” concerts blend classical repertoire with diverse musical genres, showcasing a fusion of cultures and traditions. His latest project, “Scottish Inspirations,” continues this tradition of exploration and creativity.

Beyond the concert hall, Dausgaard’s commitment to music education and social outreach is exemplified by his successful YouTube channel, which aims to introduce children to the joys of music. Additionally, his recent efforts in welcoming war refugees in Denmark underscore his belief in the transformative power of music to unite and inspire communities.

Recognized for his contributions to the arts, Thomas Dausgaard has been honoured with the Danish Knight’s Cross and is a distinguished member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
