ADRIAN YORK
“Puente is both dramatically and vocally convincing in his role as the heroic, revolutionary artist. In his plangent and heartbreaking signature aria “E lucevan le stelle” he displays a clarity of timbre and a lovely sostenuto, and when somewhat surprisingly after an unhealthy dose of torture Cavaradossi can celebrate the unexpected news of Napoleon’s last-minute victory at Marengo, Puente displays the “spinto” edge to his voice as he declaims “Vittoria! Vittoria!”

“Argentine tenor Marcelo Puente gave an excellent account of himself, particularly in his duets with Stundyte”

KLASSIK BEGEISTERT
JOHANNES KARL FISCHER
“Marcelo Puente sang a solid Turiddu, a bit fun and yet musically passionate in the melodies. His singing gave the scene more Italianità than the production… as if an excellent opera singer were singing Verdi hits in a Sicilian village alley”
(Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni at Staatsoper Hamburg, 2024)
THE SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
PAM KRAGEN
“And in his San Diego Opera debut, Argentinean tenor Marcelo Puente is impressive with his muscular sound, easy high notes and gorgeous rendering of the third-act aria “e lucevan le stelle.”
