ABOUT

South Korean soprano Seonwoo Lee is praised by critics for her “phenomenal control” (Opera Canada) and “a lyric soprano of extraordinary focus and clarity” (Opera News).

Currently a member of the Bayerische Staatsoper Opernstudio, Seonwoo made her European debut as Le Feu and Le Rossignol in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, as well as La Fata Azzurra in Respighi’s La Bella dormente nel bosco. In New York, Ms. Lee debuted was in 2021 as Proserpina in Rossi’s L’Orfeo at Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Other performance highlights include La Damoiselle élue at Alice Tully Hall and conducted by Barbara Hannigan, Lincoln Center’s “Restart Stages” as part of the Juilliard NOW series, and Verdi Opera Gala Concert with Korean National Opera. This season in Munich, Seonwoo will make her role debut as Amanda from Ligeti’s opera Le Grand Macabre.

Seonwoo received an artist diploma from Royal College of Music, a master’s degree from The Juilliard School, and a bachelor’s degree with high distinction from Seoul National University.
