Sasha Yankevych Named Conductor Fellow of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra

Sasha Yankevych has been the new Conductor Fellow of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. He will be given the opportunity to observe and work closely with Alan Gilbert, Chief Conductor, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. Sasha will also have opportunities to perform as part of NDR Discover Music! programme and prepare projects for the NDR Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Born in Ukraine in 1991, Sasha began playing the piano at the age of ten and graduated with honours from the Bydgoszcz Academy of Music in Poland. He later joined the Opera Studio of the Warsaw State Opera and the International Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House before becoming a répétiteur and assistant conductor at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. In 2021 he was awarded the second prize and the orchestral prize at the Arturo Toscanini Competition in Parma. He is a laureate of several international competitions, such as the S. Richter International Piano Competition and the HSBC Académie d’Aix-en-Provence in 2018.

Recent highlights include his debut at Hamburg State Opera, returns to Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Opera de St. Etienne, Luglio Musicale Trapanese, the New Year’s Concert at the Teatro Municipale di Piacenza, MITO Festival in Milan, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in concerts in Parma and Bologna, and the Zielona-Gora Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland.

Sasha Yankevych is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in conducting at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and is supervised by Alan Gilbert at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.
