British baritone Dominic Sedgwick is fast establishing himself as a singer with unique vocal colour and physical dynamism.

In a season of debuts, Dominic performs Sid Albert Herring for Opera North, Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia for West Green House Opera and makes his debut at the Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier as Schaunard La bohème. On the concert platform, Dominic performs with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Beethoven’s Mass in C and debuts with the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Bach’s Johannes Passion. Future seasons sees his role debut as Ned Keene Peter Grimes for Welsh National Opera and further role debuts with Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Opera North.

His recent roles include Schaunard La bohème, Marullo Rigoletto and English Clerk in David McVicar’s new production of Death in Venice for the Royal Opera; Belcore L’elisir d’amore for Opéra National de Bordeaux; Anthony in Giorgio Battistelli’s Julius Caesar for Teatro dell’Opera di Roma; Melot in a new production of Tristan und Isolde for the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence; Brother in a new production of The Seven Deadly Sins for Teatro Colón; Harlequin Ariadne auf Naxos for Opera North; Albert Werther for Grange Park Opera and Marullo for the Festival Berlioz and Bremen Musikfest. 

Recent concert engagements have included Messiah with Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra/Bernard Labadie and the RLPO/Sofi Jeannin; Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs at the Three Choirs Festival with the Philharmonia Orchestra/Samuel Hudson and Pilate in Bach’s Matthäus-Passion at the BBC Proms with Arcangelo/Jonathan Cohen. Dominic was an Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment ‘Rising Star’ from 2019-2022 and worked extensively with the orchestra, performing works including the Messiah alongside their acclaimed ‘Bach, the Universe and Everything’ series. 

A keen recitalist, Dominic has performed at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Oxford International Song Festival, the Royal Opera House and has featured on song discs with Malcolm Martineau and Dylan Perez. 

Dominic was a member of the Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme 2017-2019 where his roles included Kuligin in a new production of Káťa Kabanová, Novice’s Friend in a new production of Billy Budd, Moralès in a new production of Carmen and Third Ghost Child in the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Coraline. His cohort of Jette Parker artists were nominated for a 2020 Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Opera’. 

He studied at Clare College, Cambridge and is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s Opera School with Robert Dean. He was awarded the Audience Prize in the inaugural 2017 Grange Festival International Singing Competition.
